Glengad Notes 12/09/10

Glengad United F.C. moved to the top of the Jackie Crossan Premier Division with a 2-1 victory over Clonmany Shamrocks in Shamrock Park on Sunday last. 

In a thoroughly deserved victory Glengad goalscorers were Terence Doherty and Patrick McDermott from the penalty spot. In a great team performance the Doherty brother, Ruairi and Shane, along with John G McLaughlin and Terence Doherty were outstanding for Glengad.

On Sunday morning in The Crua, Glengad United Reserves got their first win of the season under assistant manager Roy Kelly. Goalscorers for the Reserves were Liam Nelson with a hat-trick, Ruairi Kelly and T.J. McKinley. Best performers for the Reserves were Stephen McLaughlin, Ruairi Kelly and hat-trick hero, Liam Nelson.

Glengad United First team have been drawn against Clonmany Shamrocks at home in the quarter-finals of the West End League Cup. Clonmany knocked Glengad out of this same competition at the semi-final stage last season so another difficult game is on the cards for the home team but having already defeated Clonmany twice away from home this year confidence will be high of getting a result. The draw for the early rounds of the F.A.I. Junior Cup has been made and Glengad United have been drawn against Illies Celtic away in the 2nd round. This game will take place on Sunday October 17th with a 1:30pm kick-off.

Glengad United Reserves face Carrowmena F.C. away in the next round of the Reserve League Shield. Kick-off in Tremone is at 11:00am. 

Glengad United F.C. club members are reminded that the annual registration fees are now due and the deadline for payment is Thursday September 30th. The E50 adult fee and E20 student concessionary fee covers among other things, the club insurance scheme and will help provide kit bags for each member. Payment can be made to the club treasurer, Dennis McGonagle, the assistant treasurer, Tony McColgan or any commitee member.

Training for both the First team and the Reserves will be held each Tuesday and Friday at 7.00pm at The Crua. All players are expected to attend.

 Glengad United F.C. club lotto continues to be a successful fundraiser for the club and the committee is grateful to the ticket collectors and coordinators for their continued hard work and support. There was no winner of this weeks jackpot so the top prize now rolls over to E700. The numbers drawn this week were 11, 13, 14 and 17. the E50 winner was Noel McLaughlin, Shantla, Glengad. AS usual tickets can be bought form any club lotto seller, club committee members, The Fisherman's Inn, Lafferty's Shop and on-line through locallotto.ie and the club website glengadunited.com.
