Glengad Notes 08/08/10

Glengad United F.C. kicked off their pre-season programme with a hard fought 2-1 win over Culdaff F.C. in the Cassidy Cup on Tuesday night.

Culdaff opened the scoring against the run of play midway through the first half but Glengad retained possession well and equalised just before half-time when the excellent Stephen McLaughlin (F) released Paul A McDermott on the right and McLaughlin continued his run into the box and tapped in the return ball from close range. Glengad again dominated possession in the second half and deservedly took the lead when Terence Doherty finished confidently past the advancing keeper from inside the area. Culdaff pushed forward in search of an equaliser but Seamus Houton in goal kept them at bay and Glengad held on for the win.  Glengad United play Rasheeny F.C. in the next round of the Cassidy Cup on Tuesday in Trawbreaga Park. Kick off is 7:30pm

On Thursday Glengad United defeated Carndonagh F.C. 2-1 to advance to the final of the Barney Cooper Cup where they will meet Carrowmena F.C. following their victory over Sea Rovers on Friday. Sea Rovers will now play Carndonagh F.C. in the 3rd/4th place play-off on Thursday in The Crua with the final taking place at the same venue the following evening. Both games kick off at 7:30pm.
