Youth Policy

Glengad United Football Club entered various teams in underage competition down through the years with little preparation or success. In the late 90’s however the club endeavored to put proper structures in place for the benefit of our underage players.

Meaningful progress was made in the 96/97 season when our Under-17 team reached the semi-final in both League and Cup competitions, losing to eventual winners Buncrana Hearts and Cockhill Celtic respectively. Current First Team players Shane and Ruiri Doherty are products of this team.

Evidence that the hard work being undertaken by club members at underage level began to show in 1999 when the Under-12 and Under -14 teams won the League and Cup double. The long term future of the club has been assured by the steady stream of players graduating from the Youth Team ranks to the First Team.

Two years ago Glengad United and Sea Rovers amalgamated at Youth Team level to form Glen Rovers with limited success to date.
