The Barney Cooper Cup kicked of last Wednesday night with Culdaff F.C taking on Carrowmena F.C and continued on Friday with Glengad United playing Carndonagh F.C. in Glengad.
In the opening game on Wednesday it was Culdaff who overcame Carrowmena 4-1 despite going a goal down early to a James Toner strike. Culdaff F.C came through with goals from Connor O'Brien, who grabbed a hat-trick and John McFeely. On Friday it was Glengad who advanced through to the final to face Culdaff F.C with a 3-1 win over Carndonagh. The Goal scores for Glengad were Paul A McDermott, Terrance Doherty and Ruairi Doherty and on the score sheet for Carn F.C was Ronan Doherty. The action continues on Monday August 15th with Carndonagh F.C v Carrowmena F.C in the 3/4 place play-off and on Tuesday with Glengad United v Culdaff F.C in the final.
Glengad Reserves got there preparation for the new season underway on Thursday when they travelled to Tramone to take on Carrowmena Reserves from which they secured a two nil win with goals Gary Kelly and Stephen Doherty.
The Draw for the West End League Cup took place on Monday August 8th in Maginn Park. Glengad United has been drawn against Cockhill F.C, Greencastle F.C and Illies Celtic. The first game will take place on Friday August 19th.Glengad United F.C members are reminded that the annual registration fees are now due and the deadline for payments is Thursday September 30th. The E50 adult fee and €20 student concessionary covers among other things, the club insurance scheme. Payments can be made to the club treasurer or any committee member.On the underage front training will begin in the coming weeks for Under 8s and 10s and further information will follow.
Glengad United F.C club lotto continues to be a successful fundraiser for the club and the committee is grateful to the ticket collectors and coordinators for there continued support. There was no winner of this weeks jackpot so the top prize now rolls over to E550.The numbers drawn were 4, 7, 8 and23. The E50 winner was Margaret McLaughlin Malin.
